Fontaine-Française & its castle
Fontaine-Française is a small village nestled in the heart of the Vingeanne region. A town with a historical past that is sometimes little known. Did you know that it was here that Henry IV cunningly repelled the Spanish troops during the eighth war of religion?
The castle, built in 1754 on the foundations of an ancient medieval fortress which had seen the victory of King Henry IV over the Spanish and the League in June 1595, is listed as a historic monument and bears witness to the splendor of the 18th century.
